Question Hi Alyse, I just found this website and I enjoyed reading all the questions and down to earth answers! I am 53 years old and have worked out all my life, eaten very healthy and always worn a size 6 or 8. My problem is that since my period finally ended a year and a half ago I have been gaining weigh throughout my middle! It is an ugly fat I never had before, I guess like cellulite! I have gained 8 lbs or 10 and my clothes don't fit me around my waist, they fit everywhere else! Any tips? I know there is no such thing as spot fat loss, but is this due to menopause? Help! I have adjusted really well to the rest of this change in my life, no outside medical help hardly a hot flash . My doctor isvery health conscious and did not make me take primarin or anything like that.
Alyse Abdominal fat gain is a common side effect of menopause. Also, as you go through menapause, your fat-to-muscle ratio increases, thereby slowing down your metabolism and making it easier for you to put on weight. As you stated above, there is NO such thing as spot fat loss. However, to aid in overall weight loss and boost your metabolism, you should engage in regular aerobic and resistance training exercise and you may need to slightly lower your calorie intake.
